Vienna's kosher scene is compact and almost entirely concentrated in the 2nd district, Leopoldstadt, historically the heart of Jewish Vienna and today home to the Karmeliterviertel cluster of restaurants, bakeries, delis and ice cream shops along Taborstrasse, Rotensterngasse and the surrounding lanes. A smaller cluster sits in the 1st district near the Stadttempel synagogue. Supervision is provided by the Vienna Jewish Community (IKG) rabbinate, the strictly Orthodox Machsike Hadass, Chabad Vienna and several private rabbinical authorities such as Rav Aminov and Khal Israel (Rabbi Schwartz).
