Kosher Restaurants in Five Towns
The Five Towns of Nassau County, anchored by Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Woodmere, Hewlett and Inwood, form one of the densest Orthodox Jewish communities in the United States and support a large concentration of certified kosher eateries. Central Avenue in Cedarhurst and Lawrence is the main dining strip, packed with steakhouses, pizza shops, sushi bars, cafes and bakeries, with more options along Rockaway Turnpike, Broadway in Woodmere and Peninsula Boulevard in Hewlett. The overwhelming majority of establishments are supervised by the Vaad Hakashrus of the Five Towns and Far Rockaway, with some also carrying national agency certification.
Nearly all kosher dining clusters within walking distance along Central Avenue between Cedarhurst and Lawrence, so visitors can hop between meat, dairy and sushi spots on foot. Nearby Far Rockaway adds a few more options a short drive away over the Queens line. Almost everything closes early Friday afternoon and all day Saturday for Shabbat, then many meat and pizza places reopen Saturday night after Shabbat ends. Because this is a residential Orthodox area, expect family-friendly rooms, busy Thursday nights and pre-Shabbat takeout rushes.
