The Best Kosher Restaurants in Israel
Our first-hand pick of the best certified kosher restaurants in Israel, every one visited and reviewed by us, ranked by our own experience. These are the special-occasion places worth planning a meal around, from one of the best kosher steaks in the country at a golf club in Caesarea, to a fire kitchen in the Jerusalem hills, to sea-view fish and sushi in Tel Aviv and Old Jaffa. Each shows its certifying agency, and each links to our full review.
How we chose
This is a gourmet list, not a roundup of every good spot. We only included places we visited ourselves, and we kept it to genuine special-occasion restaurants, the ones you travel a little for or save for a celebration. We ranked them by our own experience across food, setting, service, and value, not the food score alone, and we spread the net across the whole country rather than only Tel Aviv. Every restaurant is certified kosher and shows its agency on its page.
1Our number one. Mariposa sits at the Caesarea Golf Club, with a terrace looking straight out over the greens, and the 500 gram entrecote is one of the best kosher steaks we have had in Israel, cooked to perfection with the fat rendered exactly right. Add warm, attentive service and a beautiful setting, and it earns the top spot. The place to save for a real celebration.

2The best kosher date and special-occasion spot in Tel Aviv. Manara sits on a terrace at the Sheraton, right over the beach, and at golden hour the sunset does the rest. Fresh, creative fish, warm service, and tables spaced for a real conversation. Come with someone you want to impress.

3A fire kitchen in an old barn in Kiryat Anavim, out in the Jerusalem hills. There is a tabun and an open grill, the bread is made by hand and baked to order until it puffs up hot from the oven, and the fish is the real star, from a bright carpaccio to herb-crusted kubbeh. The 98 shekel business lunch is one of the best value gourmet meals we have found. Worth the short detour on the way up to Jerusalem.

4High-end kosher sushi and grilled meat inside the beautiful Setai hotel in Old Jaffa. In summer the terrace opens over the sea, which makes it one of the most impressive rooms on this list. Elegant, polished, and a genuine occasion.

5A great kosher steak and over a thousand whiskies in an atmospheric Templar-tunnel cellar under Sarona. Intimate, moody, and made for a long dinner over a good cut and a glass of something special. One of the best kosher steakhouses in Tel Aviv.

6At the Ritz-Carlton on the Herzliya Marina, a short drive north of Tel Aviv. The food is good rather than extraordinary, but the marina view is the reason to come, and with a view table it makes a calm, upscale special-occasion dinner. Book ahead and ask for the marina side.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best kosher restaurant in Israel?
For us it is Mariposa, at the Caesarea Golf Club. A 500 gram entrecote that is one of the best kosher steaks we have had anywhere in Israel, a terrace over the greens, and service to match. Manara in Tel Aviv and Nura in the Jerusalem hills are close behind, and either could top your own list depending on what you are after.
What is the best kosher steak in Israel?
Our top kosher steak is the entrecote at Mariposa in Caesarea, cooked exactly right with the fat rendered perfectly. For a steak with atmosphere, Whiskey Bar & Museum serves a great cut in a whisky cellar under Sarona in Tel Aviv, and Herbert Samuel does a solid steak with a marina view up in Herzliya. All three are certified and reviewed by us.
What is the best kosher restaurant near Jerusalem?
Nura, in Kiryat Anavim in the Jerusalem hills just off the highway. A fire kitchen with a tabun and grill, handmade bread baked to order, and fish that is genuinely the star. Their business lunch at 98 shekels a person is one of the best value gourmet meals in the country.
