Memphis, Tel Aviv: a proper thick, juicy kosher burger, made with care
Memphis is, for me, the answer to a simple question: where do you get a proper kosher burger in Tel Aviv when you do not want a smash burger? I have been a few times over the year, always trying the burgers in different sizes, and it has become one of my go-to spots. First, the meat, because that is the heart of it. You get a genuinely nice piece of meat, thick, juicy, and full of flavor. If you are tired of thin smash patties and you want something you can really sink your teeth into, this is your place. There is a good variety of burgers to choose from, and the sauces they build them with are excellent. You can taste that everything is made on the spot, and made with love. It turns out that is not an accident. Memphis was opened by Rabbi Ori Melamed, a former food critic who was frustrated that all the good burger joints opening in Tel Aviv were not kosher, so he built one himself for his family and everyone else. The meat is ground fresh with no additives, and the sauces and toppings are made in house. You feel that intention in every bite. The service deserves a special mention. This is a self-serve diner, nothing fancy, so know the format going in. But within that, the team is genuinely warm. People are friendly, always smiling, and there is a real family feel to the place. That kind of kindness stands out, especially at a self-serve burger spot where service is often an afterthought. On price, expect around 75 shekels per person. It is a little on the expensive side, but this is the price of good meat, prepared properly and fresh, so it feels fair for what you get. Bottom line: if you want a serious, thick, juicy kosher burger in Tel Aviv, made with love, Memphis is an easy recommendation. I endorse it. A note on the rating: it reflects the concept, the price, and the type of restaurant, which is a warm, no-frills kosher burger diner, not a fine-dining kitchen. Judged as exactly what it sets out to be, it is excellent.
